In 1977 - Jimmy Carter announce to Americans that there was a need for them to change their oil consumption.
Thirty-four years later Obama has said the same to Americans.
Why do we refuse to change? Because no one is making us.
Driving up the price of gas does not seem to cause anyone from buying less of it - they just buy less of big ticket items and other non-necessary items.
Oil is so embedded in our daily lives that if the gas stations all disappeared simaltaneously, the US would implode economically.
There are proven methods of alternative resources, but the critics always say that the average consumer cannot afford it. If the average consumer bought alternative resources in the same capacity as they do oil, then the cost would be driven down. Simple economics. Plus, more jobs would be created because we would need production of these alternative resources - which requires people, machines, etc.
We have a simple answer to saving our economy and reducing oil consumption. It is our leaders in government that refuse to move this forward - most likely because their campaigns receive money for oil companies.
In another 34 years - that current president will tell Americans that there is a need for them to change their oil consumption. This time it will be because there is no oil left.
